Late update

Haven't really done a lot as of late (again) But I did do a pastel a few weeks ago and working on a few graphites. The daffodil (which I unfortunatly did on sketchbook paper), japanese maple, and pastel candies are not done yet. The japanese maple is coming along well I think and the tree stump I am very much happy with. I think my goal of obtaining realism in my work gets closer with every piece I work on. I am really getting excited for a water color workshop next month-so I will finish these by then. Everyone of these except the daffodil were done in the WC! Basic 102 Classes. Will be expanding the daffodil - I was not going to do that-but the more I work on it I find you can accomplish a decent piece on sketchbook paper if you devote the time. Though I will not do THAT again. :)

Landscapes

At WetCanvas we are now studying landsapes in graphite with Diane Wright-artist and author. She is truly an inspiration and will have her book out mid year.
Working on Bristol smooth 300 series, mechanical pencil (hard, F ans 2H is recommended to alliviate grainines), smoothing with chamois, blu-tac and white plastic eraser-this drawing represents my back lit clouds.
The second cloud drawing-I am not as happy with-so I will see if I can improve it. If not-on to another.

Baby ACEO

The past few of days I have been lazy but did work on a baby gift. Mech. .5 pencil on Stonehenge. ACEO sized (2.5" x 3.5") and I am fairly happy with it except for the lettering and the matt. But I'm going to have a pro cut a matt, then will feel better about it. The matt is rasberry, wooden frame. Nothing like a baby!!!

Colored Pencil-I adore it!

These are two of my colored pencil paintings. They are from master works of my idol William Bouguereau and are my interpretation. The Madonna of the Roses was my first cp piece- done in 2004-and didn't know much about cp. It was a Mother's Day present for my Mom.
The Lil Sulk is my favorite. I did her in 2006-in WC! Basic 101 Class 32 taught by the most marvelously talented Cindy Bruck. My hat off to her for all the time and expertise she gave the class and myself. In this class I learned a lot about cp and how to blend them to achieve a painterly look. This painting - The Lil Sulk-I was totally obsessed with getting right. Planning to frame her as this afternoon.

November 11, 2006

These are drawings of my Mom and Dad I also did thru the Wet Canvas Classes. My Mom's is from her High School days-pretty lady and still here with us. The one of my Dad is from his Korean War days. He was a military hero. He was dubbed "The Fighting Fool" for his actions. He never talked about his time in Korea when we were young, not until he was dying did he reflect back and share with us. Dad did as he needed to to there as a US Army soldier. I think he had regrets as a citizen of God's world. He is my Hero always.

November 10, 2006

I thought I would start out sharing the past here with the drawings I have done in the Wet Canvas Classes.
These are from the past 2 years-starting in Oct, 2004 and moving forward from there. Nothing special-a progression just the same. You will also note I am not an English scholar. :)

Forever Moving Ahead

I am an artist-struggling always to move forward. Time is not always on my side-and I imagine it is the same for everyone. Times can often be rough-though they have been pretty smooth for quite a while. During this time I have been working on my art. I think there has been progress. I am a Wet Canvas member and have been taking JayD's wonderful Classes for over 2 years. I do not know where my art would be without this man-well-yes perhaps I do-probably nowhere. I also have great support from my wonderful husband Pat and children Matthew, Luke and Maggie.
I picked up the pencil in 2004 and rarely put it down. In fact-the past two months is the longest span of time without much done artwise.
I not only stuggle with time-but with medium-as I have not used one I do not love. Pencil, colored pencil, ink, pastels, charcoal and chalk. I have dabbled with oils-and have soooo much to learn there. Hopefully over the winter months the time will allow me to progress forward with that particular medium. I am raring to go now....So begins my blog.
